I know these are a new design, and there are only a few of these out there, but I hope you make more, Mrs T. :) I get to wear mine tomorrow when I perform, so I will try to get some good photos in it.
Oh, and for everyone that is wondering, Tempest has an incredible memory for her creations that she sells. She not only remembered how many corset belts three of us ladies had purchased in the past, but also the styles...and I bought my first one in 2005! You really rock, woman.

Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to take pix---if the weather cooperates tomorrow, I'll get some decent light in the studio, and get pix of the new hats and belts, and get those up over the weekend.

If you're thinking of a custom order (especially for Tribal Fest), you need to contact me ASAP to get on the books, as I expect to close them in April, and will take new CUSTOM orders AFTER/AT TF8..

Why? Well, I have set aside March and April as time to sit down and finish developing a lot of the new things that have been laying dormant in my sketchbook for the last 1-4 years, and bring them to life. In additional to producing regular stock, I want to focus on finally making more haute couture pieces and new designs for Tribal Fest & beyond. I've got pages and pages of new stuff, and I was just so busy in CA, I never got to get past the basic stock. I've adjusted my schedule here in NJ (plus I have a whole room for a studio), so that's what's up my sleeve.

FYI, at this moment, I'm still figuring out when I will be arriving at Tribal Fest. If not Wed, then I will be arriving sometime on Thursday. Depending on the weather, I may vend outside Thurs-Friday...but I will be at my regular space inside come Saturday/Sunday, which is immediately to your right as you come in the main doors (where admissions is). I am considering a room-party on Thursday evening, which will be similar to what I did at 3rd Coast - all the wares and wears are out for your perusal in a nice relaxed setting. We shall see.

So, that's about it in a teapot.

Im not putting excessive pressure on it either, just enough to keep it on the hips and damn, it just falls right apart. I am wanting to know if you are using a more industrial version of what I am finding at my local fabric shop. Do you have issues with this stuff falling apart? Is there something better you have found than the wrights grommet tape? I have decided to not use it at all until I find something stronger, so for now I am using loops of ribbon instead, but I really like the look of grommet tape and I'd love to find a stronger one than what I've been using. Thanks for any help :)

I just did an inventory of what I have left for Vamp shirts at the moment..

In spaghetti tanks, I have 3 small, and 1 medium/OS (these run big! I normally wear a M in tanks, and the small is plenty!)
in ribbed tanks, I have 3 medium, and 2 large (I don't normally get these in M, but the printer oops'ed)

I will place an order soon for more sizes..if you're looking for a specific style (say a large spaghetti or a small ribbed/thick strap, please LMK ASAP) (I'd like to have them in stock for Black Sun, so if you let me know now what size you need, we can get your order placed and have it out to you as soon as it comes in).

In the slightly fitted tee's, I have S, M, and XL. I have a men's XXL as well.

Shimmy in the Shadows: a Gothic Belly Dance Event

An Afternoon of Performances by Gothic Belly Dancers and open floor dancing with music by DJ Lost Boy
July 1, 2:30pm-5:30pm
Regent Underground Theatre, 7 Medford Street, Arlington, MA
$12

Come join New England's avant garde gothic belly dance artists for a Gothic Hafli (belly dancer/Arabic term for dance party), a genuinely underground event at the Regent Underground Theatre on July 1, 2:30pm-5:30pm. Featured performers include among others Aepril Schaile, Tempest, Zingari East, La Flamme Tribale, and Badriya, performing to music from Nick Cave to Lacuna Coil to Juno Reactor and everything in between. Between performances, bust out your own gothic belly dance moves to music spun by Boston goth scene favorite DJ Lost Boy. Vendors of gothic and belly dance accoutrements will be present to help you complete your gothic belly dance look, including glitter from Eye Kandy, costuming/accessories by Karina Khan, Tempest and Desideria, and Henna body art (mehndi) by Maria O'Connor of Ancient Fire Henna. Shimmy in the Shadows is an all ages event, but please keep in mind that Gothic art does go in dark directions and may not be suitable for young children.

For more details, directions, etc., visit http://users.rcn.com/badriya/raksspooki.html

Gothic Belly Dance merges the styling of the Gothic or “Goth” subculture of the last few decades with the beautiful expression and movement of Middle Eastern Dance. Many of the major founders in the Gothic music scene and its subgenres have long fused Western music with the sounds of India and the Middle East, and so the subsequent fusion of Gothic music and belly dance movement has been a natural progression. Gothic belly dance has become increasingly popular around the world over the last few years. Badriya, the event organizer, has been performing both traditional Arabic belly dance and less traditional Gothic belly dance in the Boston area since 2001, and put on New England's first gothic belly dance event, Raks Spooki, in October 2006.

So, we have technically been in limbo since before Tribal Fest - preparing, moving, touring, moving, staying with family, trying to find a job, trying to find a home, and now that the latter two have been incredibly successful, we begin moving in immediately, but our stuff is spread across at least 2 states and will take several days and many miles to get to its new home...I'm hoping by the end of this week, before we leave for RI/Boston/Shimmy in the Shadows, that we'll be officially moved in to our new place.

So once again, we're in transit AND I'm starting my new job tomorrow, and therefore should finally be settled in next week (post July 1st). So all custom orders will be completed and shipped in the following week (post July 1st)...I also am discovering a number of PayPal orders for tee's, patterns, and videos have been MIA - mainly, I seem to have not received notices (possibly eaten by the server while we were on tour, or never actually sent, which occasionally happens...particularly around mercury retrograde)...so I am catching those and shipping out both errant and delayed orders.....with tokens of my appreciation for your patience. Other types of work (updates, design projects/etc) will be addressed ASAP.

And because of our new home set-up and my job, my husband Keith will be taking over a lot of the ordering/shipping, homesite updates, etc, leaving me more time to design and dance - so we'll definitely be back on track and shipping quickly and promptly from now one (minus any issues resulting from acts of gawd).

Also, until I become familiar with the production schedule of my new job, which has seasonal peaks associated with the jewelry/fashion industry, we won't be any long-term touring for now, and I'm going to limit the number of out of town gigs per month. However, my work is quite supportive of my dance and it's related travels, so I can travel either locally or by plane/train/whatever for weekend events (generally Friday-Sunday). So if you're interested in hosting a workshop/performance/weekend event in your area, please contact me with your ideas/timeframe, so we can get you into the schedule for the end of this year (filling up FAST!) and into 2008.

Small (4 x 5.5) and large (8 x 11) prints are available of these pieces...but here's a rare opportunity to revel in the beauty of the original piece itself. I've been tucking these aside for a while, but they need to go for the sake of the move...

PayPal is preferred.

I bought you the Tempest corset belt pattern in 2006 and I keep looking at your site whenever I can. I can see that you are very successful and you must be sewing day and night to provide all those gorgeous belts and bras!!
I am French and I was wondering where you got those beautiful fabrics! Is there a web site where I can see them ? I would like to buy some to be able to make something nicer than the belt I have made with my ordinary-looking fabric.

at least that's what I'm calling it at the moment...

Basically, here's the deal. After Tribal Fest 7, Keith, myself, and Mischief are packing up the rest of our belongings and goodies (shipping out most of it ahead of time...like our evergrowing pile of books...must have books!! screw furniture!). And we simply just can't cross the country via van without making good use of it and meeting folks along the way! So I'm looking to book some evening workshops along our route (similar to the Durga Tour, but you get two solid hours or more of me, which is more fun than going to hell in a handbasket.)

So, if we leave the Friday after Tribal Fest, we could do something like the following:
Saturday, 5/26: Los Angeles area
Sunday, 5/27: San Diego
Monday, 5/28: Phoenix, AZ
Tuesday, 5/29: somewhere, NM
Wednesday, 5/30: Amarillo, TX
Thursday, 5/31: Oklahoma
and from here we can go up through Missouri, or across through Arkansas
The Southernly Route:
Friday, 6/1: Hot Springs or Little Rock AR
Saturday: 6/2: Tennesee (Memphis or Nashville?)
Sunday: 6/3: North Carolina (Asheville, Winston-Salem, etc)
Monday: 6/4: Virginia/DC
and then arrival in Philadelphia!

The Northern Route could be
St. Louis on 6/1
6/2 perhaps Louisville, Kentucky
6/3: Ohio
6/4: Western PA

Details:
Contracting for the workshops would be very similar to the Durga Tour layout: a gas stipend deposit, pet-friendly hotel accomodations for the evening, and either an hourly rate or 70/30 after expenses (whichever is greater). Almost consistently across the country, weeknight workshops were just as packed as the weekend ones, with full classrooms (averaging 20-40 students depending on room size). Weeknight workshops would need to be scheduled for no earlier than 7pm to allow for traffic snafus. A performance instead of a workshop is also possible, but unless it's a weekend day that we have enough time to get there for, I'm going to say just one or the other this time around.

Yes, this means that plans for a Northwest Durga Tour are on hold for now. BUT if you'd like to schedule a weekend event somewhere I'm not traveling to along the way, it's very easy to put that together, as long as my schedule permits it! (I'm not afraid of planes, really!)

If you're interested in hosting, or have any other related questions, drop me a message with your email (and please note where you are at in the subject line!), or email me :)

"The Art of Expression" - Sunday, January 14th, 2007, from 2pm-5pm

Dance without expression is simply exercise for the body. Often, a dancer can get too focused on a choreography, counting of steps, beats, and therefore become “left-brained” in their dancing –meaning they’re being technical, and not dancing creatively, spontaneously, from the heart! Learn to unlock your mind and begin to truly emote through your dancing. Discover the key aspects of capturing your audience with your stage presence and develop your own onstage drama! We’ll particularly focus on improvisational technique, creativity in dance, and learning to be “in the moment.”

This class is geared towards the genre of Gothic Bellydance, but the concepts can be utilized for any type of bellydance performance (cabaret, tribal, sacred, etc). All levels are welcome.

Space is limited to only 10 students, so pre-registration is highly recommended to secure your space! Tuition is $40.

Workshop will take place at Labyrinth Dance/SJE Creations -a beautiful new boutique and dance studio, located in the heart of downtown San Leandro, between hwys 880 and 580. Address: 614 E. 14th Street, San Leandro, 94577 - Studio phone: 510.382.9058

Despite the VERY busy day the Bay Area had yesterday in bellydance (Ansuya, Jim Boz, Suhaila studio party), had a great turnout for the workshop and the usual packed Cafe Bellie! A lot of folks still couldn't make the workshop b/c of scheduling and such, so I've been eyeballing the calendar for another 3 hour workshop --I'm looking at January 14th or the 21st, again in San Leandro.

Tentative topic for this workshop would be "Strange Presence" - learning how to truly emote with your dance, how to tell a story, how to work and THINK visually.

Re-thinking the size of the space, I'm going to knock the number of students down to between 8-10, rather than a dozen. We had a really nice amount of room, and I hate when workshops get squished.

If you have input on the date, want to be notified when more info is available, etc---post, message, or email me :)

I've 30 cards total, with 16 of one design, and 14 of the other, so I've put them into groups of 5, with 2/3 of each design. I can take the sets apart and make whole sets of 5 while supplies last (and there ain't much to start with! lol) A picture of the finished cards are in the photo gallery...but you can see close-ups of the actual art, pricing, and all that good stuff here:http://www.meddevi.com/art/nc-holiday.html

I don't even know if I still have the physical masters for these or the computer files, so there's a good chance that this is the last of 'em! $12 a set, plus shipping.

I'd like to get a feel for what times/days are best----right now I'm considering a 90 minute evening class on Wednesday evenings (7:30-9pm), or 2-3 hour workshop series on Sundays (2-5pm or so). Class size would be limited to a dozen to best accomodate student's needs and space.

"Spiritea" - one of my favs, and I found a little more fabric to make a medium 4 panel (similar belt pictured here: http://www.meddevi.com/dance/boutique/spiritea.html)
"BlueRaj" - antique Sari silver and turquoise medium 4 panel (can take pix)

What is The Durga Tour? A nationwide, coast-to-coast tour of the US with workshops and performances in every state we go through (or just about!), and it will take place from mid-Sept 2006 to mid/late October 2006. I will be the main instructor, but we're also going to have at least two separate guest instructors along for the ride at various legs of the tour!

Ok, first off---this is nothing at all final---I've been trying to map out routes in time with both the seasons, as well as our timeframe and interested hosts. Over the next few days I'll be sending out emails with contract/class/performance details to interested hosts and trying to solicit interest for some in-between areas. Basically, we're looking to leave the weekend after September 13th...we need to be in Rhode Island for the weekend of October 6th, and we need to be back in California for Hips of Fury October 21st. I had a lot of time in the van this weekend as we were driving to and fro SoCal, and this is what I've come up with as a possible route/target list. Some places will get weekend events, some places will get weeknight events. If you're interested in hosting in a proposed area, or are along the path reasonably, please drop me an email at tempest@meddevi.com. If there's a big dance event happening in your area in the timeframe, let me know.

Start:
Sacramento, CA
Reno, NV
Salt Lake City, Utah
Denver, CO
Omaha or Lincoln, Nebraska
Des Moins or Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Bloomington or Indianapolis, IN
Columbus or Cincinnati, OH
Pittsburg, PA
Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse/Albany, NY (1 or 2 stops) ?
Boston, Massachusetts
Connecticut ?
Philadelphia, PA
Washington, DC
Richmond or Norfolk, VA ?
Greensboro or Asheville, NC ?
Tennesse or Kentucky
Little Rock, AR
Albuquerque, NM
Phoenix/Northern AZ
Las Vegas
end at Hips of Fury in Palmdale, CA

It's hard to believe I've made that many of something---especially since as a printmaker, I would get grumpy after making 15 pieces of an edition LOL. But since I only make a few of each fabric with size and style variations, I suppose that's the difference :) And there's always new fabrics, new things to discover.

So, I'd like to take this moment to thank all of you who have purchased an original piece from me, or bought the pattern and made one for yourself! I truly appreciate your support of my work and my designs.

This year is going to be another exciting year---I will be revamping the website this month (been way too busy to track updates, b/c they move so quickly, but I have so many things to add), and for Rakkasah, I will be releasing the Corset Bra pattern---as well as premiering new designs and products ( as well as the Gothic Belly Dance DVD!!!).
Well, it's not quite Dec yet...but by the time I think about doing an update again, it'll probably be 2006.

Today, I just cleared my custom order books --wee! This means, I can take a *small* handful orders for folks who want something done for the holidays (be it Hanukkah, Xmas, New Year's, Yule, whatevah) --and that also means if you were on the custom order list, your order is departing my house on Mon or Tues, heading to your hot hips :)

In the meantime, I'm finishing up prep for the first ever Gothic Belly Dance DVD. I'm heading to NYC to film my pieces in less than two weeks, and then I'm teaching and performing the next day (details in NYC thread).

Then the following weekend, we're in San Luis Obispo for Tribal Fusion Faire! My workshop is on Sat the 17th, performance and vending on Sun the 18th. Details: http://www.meddevi.com/tribalfusionfaire

And who knows from there and in-between? :)

Oh yes---site overhauls! http://www.darklydramatic.com will be up hopefully this week, and Med'Devi Ink will experience a site revamp by the end of this year.

Madad, a Hindi word for "relief" and "aid," seemed like a perfect
title for this benefit. Lenay of n.o.madic tribal (a New Orleans
tribal belly dance troupe) and Clandestine have organized an evening
of belly dance, bhangra, and go-go performances to help raise money
for the Red Cross. All door proceeds go to the Red Cross (thanks DNA
finest local dance talent, you will also get some good karma.
We are also collecting costume donations for displaced New Orleans
belly dancers, so feel free to bring any costuming, jewelry, etc.
Vicki of Dhol Rhythms will give a free bhangra dance lesson right

The Durga Tour

In October 2006, our dear friend Natalie is getting married, and we’re going to be there for the moment. The only catch is that we’re in California, Nat’s in Rhode Island, and my husband Keith hates to fly. REALLY hates to fly. But he does love to drive, and we have a huge kick-arse van. So our proposed solution is to pack up the Mischief (our cat), and head out on a cross-country tour. Along the way, we can make pre-scheduled stops for workshops and performances, and visit friends and family. We’re tentatively calling it “The Durga Tour” and I already have a piece of artwork in mind for it!

(While it’s more than a year off in the distance, it’s pretty much a given this trek will happen as long as gas prices don’t rise beyond $4 a gallon generally, and they haven’t invented teleporters by then.)

We can head in a southwest to southeast to northeast direction on our way out, and a Midwest/northwest direction the other (or vice versa.) For example, how we got out here in the first place traveling through RI-CT-NY-NJ-PA-OH-IN-IL-MO-OK-TX-NM-AZ-CA (ok that may not be in precise order, because I’m not looking at a map, but that’s the states we hit.)

Because we’ll be in constant travel-mode as we go, some locations will be better suited for a weeknight workshop, while others can be a weekend workshop and evening show combination. So, ranging from a 90 minute workshop, to two 90 minute/two hour workshops, or 1 three hour workshop, etc, with topics in Gothic Belly Dance, Sacred Dance, Ritual Elements, and more.

Our key needs will be a non-smoking, cat-friendly motel/hotel space at our scheduled stops, and workshop contracts will be written for each event with specific detailing.

My schedule is still of course going to be open to regular/full-scale workshop events/performances across the country, but we figured this would be a fun and less-expensive way (for sponsors) to do smaller events as we go, and really get to meet the communities along the way!

So, if you’re interested in host
